Auckland Hospital - National Women's Hospital/Green Lane Hospital
National Women's Hospital provides surgical termination between 13 and 18 weeks for women who reside in the Auckland District Health Board area. Medical induction of labour is also available for women between 13 and 19 weeks pregnant.
The First Step
To be referred, you can see a GP or Family Planning doctor. They will talk to you and organise some essential blood and swab tests and arrange you a counselling appointment. If you are between 13 and 18 weeks pregnant they will book you an appointment at the National Women's Hospital.
This must be arranged by the referring doctor prior to the appointment.
Surgical Termination at National Women's Hospital
You will be seen for pre-assessment and if you wish to go ahead will have a minor procedure to insert some rods into your cervix. You will then be given a time the following day for the surgical procedure. This may be performed with under either a local anaesthetic (awake) or general anaesthetic (asleep).
Medical termination at National Women's Hospital
National Women's Hospital provides a medical termination service for pregnancies between 13 and 19 weeks. This procedure induced delivery of the pregnancy. Please note we do offer first trimester medical termination option at Epsom Day Unit (EDU) up to 9 weeks pregnancy.
Follow-up is provided by the referring doctor. Follow-up counselling is available by referral from your doctor.
